PRoM PREDICTIONS 2024

By Charlotte Ross

Prom season has begun and the dresses are more controversial than ever.  “Easter prom” has sprung all over social media as a trend for 2024 and loads of backlash is appearing as a response. “Easter prom” is a more casual prom dress that is moving away from the classic glam of prom and is creating a more floral and boho look. However, in TikTok comment sections, people are comparing these high schooler's dresses to something someone would wear at Sunday dinner, Easter, or a beach vacation. Obviously, just wear what you feel most confident in, but for 2024, here’s what Criminal is predicting….

1.Lots of Florals.

As we discussed, Easter prom is all the rave (and rage) online.  To be fair prom usually takes place in Springtime; therefore, girls are choosing to dive into the spring feel and choose something that may be considered more casual but has the spring and boho feel that may be what the girl is most comfortable in.  If glam isn’t your vibe, tone it down.  I feel like we’re going to be seeing lots more floral proms than we already are this 2024 and we’ll see if this trend will continue in future years of prom…

2. Leopard Print

Leopard print made a large comeback at the end of 2023 leading into 2024 in the clean girl community.  I hope to see leopard print at prom in a classy silhouette, a cowl or strapless neckline, with a simple gold or black heel, and a slick back for more casual proms this year.

3. 90’s Styles

This year comebacks of popular 90s and 2000’s rom coms flooded TikTok and Pinterest, with looks from 10 Things I Hate About You and Andie Anderson’s famous yellow gown in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.  Teen girls will look to Kat and Bianca Strafford for prom inspiration this season and go with similar silhouettes that you would find in any 90s or 2000s chick flick.

4. Tulle

Similarly to the florals, tulle entered prom trends in 2023 and I expect to see it even more this year.  Tulle also gives the spring vibes while staying extra and big for prom.  It screams princess and ball while being unique.  I love to see tulle and how unique the tulle prom dresses are.  This is one of my favorite trends and I hope the popularity of tulle keeps growing.  One of my favorite ways to use tulle is the Henri Gown from The Bar or the popular style #55500 from Sherri Hill that has tulle while sticking to the classic glam styles of prom.

5. Metallics

Last prom season we saw lots of silk.  This year, I think the shine will be taken to the next level with the use of metallics.  Metallics are not only great for summer but tie into how prom dresses have been taken to a more creative space this season where more styles are becoming acceptable.  This trend also makes sense due to the trend of mixing metals and chunky jewelry from earlier this year.  People are having more fun with metallics and tying it into everyday wear; therefore, I expect a lot of metallics on the dance floor this prom.
